Where alpine elegance meets Canadian hospitality
Honestly, we didn't set out to create just another mountain hotel. We wanted something different.
Back in 2008, the founders - Maria Quinthal and her partner Derek Orvexis - were spending their third winter in Whistler. They'd been staying at various places around town, and while the skiing was phenomenal, something was missing. Most hotels felt either too corporate or too rustic. There wasn't really a spot that balanced refined luxury with that genuine West Coast warmth.
So they took a chance. Bought this century-old timber structure that'd been sitting empty for years on Mountain View Drive. People thought they were crazy - the place needed serious work. But they saw the bones of something special. Eighteen months of renovation later, combining the original timber framework with modern alpine design, and Quinthal Orvexis opened its doors.
We've grown since then, sure. Added the spa in 2012, expanded our restaurant in 2016. But we've kept that original vision intact - a place where you can kick back after a day on the slopes without sacrificing an ounce of comfort or style.
Look, we're not gonna feed you some corporate mission statement full of buzzwords. Here's the deal: we built this place for people who appreciate the finer things but don't want the stuffiness that sometimes comes with luxury hotels.
You'll find top-shelf amenities here - the spa products, the restaurant ingredients, the thread count on our sheets. But you'll also find staff who'll actually remember your name and your coffee order. We think that's what real hospitality looks like.
We've got an incredible team here. Some have been with us since day one, others joined more recently. But they all share the same philosophy about taking care of guests.
Co-Founder & Managing Director
Maria handles the big picture stuff and somehow still finds time to chat with guests in the lobby. She's got this knack for remembering everyone's stories.
Co-Founder & Operations Director
Derek's the one who makes sure everything runs smoothly. Former ski instructor, he knows Whistler like the back of his hand and loves sharing insider tips.
Executive Chef
Thomas came from Vancouver's fine dining scene but wanted the mountain lifestyle. He's turned our restaurant into something special while keeping it approachable.
Beyond the leadership, we've got concierges who've lived in Whistler for decades, housekeeping staff who take genuine pride in their work, and spa therapists who'll work out knots you didn't even know you had.
Our front desk team? They're not just checking you in - they're your local connection. Need dinner reservations somewhere off the beaten path? They've got you. Want to know where the locals actually ski? Just ask.
We do regular training, yeah, but what really makes the difference is that we hire people who genuinely enjoy what they do. You can't fake that kind of hospitality.
We're surrounded by this incredible natural beauty, and we take that responsibility seriously. Solar panels on the roof, locally-sourced restaurant ingredients, partnership with local conservation groups. It's not about being perfect - it's about constantly trying to do better.
We're not just in Whistler - we're part of Whistler. We sponsor local events, employ local folks, and contribute to community initiatives. The town's given us so much, and we believe in giving back.
Yeah, we've got those panoramic mountain views everyone talks about. But it's more than that - we're positioned perfectly. Close enough to village life but far enough to feel like a retreat.
From the locally-roasted coffee in your room to the heated boot storage for your ski gear. We've thought through the little things that actually matter when you're on vacation.
Sophisticated but not pretentious. That's the balance we've struck. You can show up in your ski gear or dressed for dinner - either way, you'll feel right at home.
Not every guest wants the same experience. Some people want the full package with spa treatments and fine dining. Others just want a comfortable base camp for their mountain adventures. We're cool with both.
We could keep talking about what makes us special, but honestly? You should just come experience it. Whether you're here for the skiing, the mountain biking, or just to unplug and relax - we've got you covered.
